LONG BEACH — It was cooler than usual at the Moore League’s first cross country meet of the year, and it made for dramatic results in both races at El Dorado Park.
On the boys side, the Poly team turned in one of its all-time best performances in a league race while the Jackrabbits’ Leslie Diaz broke the course record in the girls race, and Wilson won its first league meet in eight years.
“It’s good, they’ve been building to this for about four years,” said Wilson coach Ed Hauck. “When these girls were freshmen, Poly was finishing one through seven, and then slowly over the last two years, we’ve been breaking it up.”
The Bruins’ win came by one point, as they edged the Jackrabbits, 27-28. Sabrina Del Bello led the Bruins with a time of 18:42, backed up by Aliya Mesihovich (18:45). Wilson had three of the top five finishers, with Ryann Mayo finishing fifth with a time of 18:59.
