LANCER SECTION

 

BEST BUDDIES CLUB – Today at lunch.  We’re throwing a dance party in the small gym! Come out at lunch to have some fun with the buddies!

 

HERFF JONES – Will be on campus at lunch only on Tuesday, Feb. 20th in front of banker’s window. Come order announcements and rings.

 

THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED - All day on both Tuesday, February 20 and Wednesday, February 21 due to testing and an all day meeting.

HOMEROOM REP MEETING TODAY – Please send your rep to the auditorium at the beginning of 4th period today.

THE ALL-DISTRICT DANCE CONCERT - Spectrum, will take place here at our school today, February 16th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.  You make purchase tickets from any advance dance team member or from Mrs. Rykert in room 607.  Pre-sale $8.00, at the door $10.  Come enjoy and support your school's dance team.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS MEETING TODAY – There will be a Student Ambassadors Meeting today at Lunch in the College and Career Center.

 

INTERESTED IN EARNING $140? – Stop by the College and Career Center today to learn more about becoming a Student Pollworker and assisting people who are voting on election day.  For this job you must be at least 16 years old and have at least a 2.5 GPA. 

 

MILITARY WEDNESDAY IS COMING SOON – All month long you can stop by the College and Career Center on Wednesdays to meet with a military representative at Lunch.  On Wednesday, you can learn more about all of the opportunities that you’ll love in the United States Army.

YEARBOOKS ARE FOR SALE - For $95 until March 30th at the Bankers Office. Please be sure to pre-order your yearbook to guarantee your copy. Last year we SOLD OUT! 

CLUB MEETINGS FOR LEADERS/ICC REPS – On Monday, Feb. 26th in the ASB office at lunch.

 

DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT – Don’t forget to sign up for this year’s dodgeball tournament at the ASB office by today, February 16th.  The tournament will be at lunch from 2/20 to 2/23.  Sign up with your team of 5 at the ASB office today!  Cost is $5 per team.

ATTENTION AP STUDENTS -  Registration and payment window for AP Exams is now open. Check your School Loop email for details, or ask an AP teacher.  Register online in StudentVUE until March 1st, then pay the banker in cash, or pay by credit card using the School Loop Web Store.  Additional registration support is offered by Mrs. Cangro in the Library every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school until 4:30 pm, and ends when the registration window closes.  Last day to pay for exams is March 9th.  Avoid long lines and pay early!

SHARP APPLICATIONS – Are available in the ASB office. Make sure you write down your 3rd period teacher and room number and include a copy of your report card. Applications are due Feb. 23rd to the ASB office.

CLUB PHOTOS FOR YEARBOOK – Club photos will resume, clubs must sign-up in the ASB office for an appointment. Please, do not submit any photos, they will NOT be accepted.

HOSA Club-SMILE DRIVE- Kids in our community need help with keeping their smiles bright and shiny. We are collecting oral hygiene products i.e. packaged toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste, and mouthwash. There will be boxes located at the front office, room 825, and room 827 for donations to be dropped off. Dates: January 31st and ends March 16th.  Our goal: 100 oral hygiene items. 

 

 

CLUB SECTION

 

BREAKFAST CLUB - Join the Breakfast Club for lunch on Tuesdays in Rm 323 A.  The Breakfast Club is where you can get together with new and old friends to talk about important issues that affect YOU.   We also have good snacks!

DO YOU PLAY LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, COUNTER STRIKE: GO, or Over Watch?  Then join our e-sport team sponsored by the computer club.  Drop by Mr. Ottina's room 711. The club meets Mondays at lunch in room 711.

ACADEMIC STUDY SKILLS CLASS- meets every Tues. from 2:45-4:00 in Rm 304 and on Thurs. same time in B- regardless of the even/odd schedule.  You must be registered to attend and the class will show up on your school loop when you are.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Causey in B95.

HOSA CLUB- Our club HOSA meets every red/odd Wednesday in room 825. We hope to see you there!

 

WORLD LANGUAGE SUPPORT CLUB: - Are you taking a foreign language and would like peer support? Club will meet Wednesdays at lunch in Ms. Santana's RM 414 and on Tuesday, Thursdays in Mrs. Valencia's room RM 418 All languages are encouraged to stop by to join the World Language Support Club.

PHOTO CLUB – Meets on Fridays at Lunch in room 813.

FRESHMAN SENATE – Meetings every Tuesday in room 812 during lunch. See you there and bring a friend!

MESA- Meeting this Tuesday in room 703 at lunch.  Must attend to compete this March.

SOPHOMORE SENATE – Come to room 817 on Fridays at lunch.

 

SENIOR SECTION

PARENT FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP 2/22 – On Thursday, February 22nd, Lakewood will be hosting a Parent Financial Aid Workshop where seniors and their families can drop in to the College and Career Center (Room 332) any time between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm to get help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (for undocumented students only).  Remember that the financial aid deadline is March 2nd, so take advantage of the February 22nd workshop.

DO YOU WANT TO GET YOUR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION FINISHED AND WIN PRIZES? - On Saturday, February 24th, Lakewood will be hosting the College Greenlight-to-College Financial Aid Application Marathon where seniors can drop in to the College and Career Center any time between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm to work on financial aid applications or scholarships.  Thanks to College Greenlight, prizes will also be given out every hour including $1,000 worth of gift cards and a $1,000 scholarship.  Get your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application finished, work on scholarships, and win prizes!

 

NEXT LBCC EARLY BIRD ON MARCH 10TH – Seniors, if you LBCC Express Days at Lakewood, you can still participate in the Early Bird process on Saturday, March 10th at LBCC.  Stop by the College and Career Center or one of the College Advisors’ offices today to pick up a flyer.  You’ll need to register for the Early Bird on Wednesday, February 28th in the College and Career Center.

 

CAREER CENTER SECTION

 

MILITARY WEDNESDAY ALL MONTH LONG – If you’d like to learn more about the military, in February you’ll have your chance to learn more every Wednesday at Lunch in the College and Career Center.  On February 21st and 28th, you can meet with a representative from the U.S. Army.

 

WIN A $5,000 SCHOLARSHIP – Students of every grade level are welcome to the $5,000 Scholarship workshop on Monday, February 26th at 6:00 pm in the LHS Library.  Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are all eligible to win up to $5,000.  Twenty six different scholarships will be given away and you can bring your family to the February 26th hour-long meeting to learn more.

THE FINANCIAL AID DEADLINE IS ALMOST HERE!!! - All Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Applications (for students who are undocumented) must be submitted by March 2nd.  If you haven't completed your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application, you can do so at: FAFSA https://fafsa.ed.gov/ or California Dream Act Application https://dream.csac.ca.gov/  Remember that you’ll need your parents’ 2016 tax returns to make it easier to complete your financial aid application.
