Academics Beyond the Ordinary
The ARTS Academy at Lakewood High School is a place for students with a desire for inspiration and self-expression to explore the creativity in the world around them. Students in the ARTS Academy are given the opportunity to discover their artistic voice, develop the expression of their artistic voice, and direction to life long success. At the center of the ARTS Academy are five key electives designed to help creative teens develop communication skills using their voice, body, and imagination. All members of the ARTS Academy will be expected to complete these five required ARTS electives:
- Performing Arts: Dance or Theater
- Fine Arts: Drawing Painting
- Music: Exploring Music, Concert Choir, or Guitar
- Liberal Arts: Creative Writing
- Visual Arts: New Media

Chapman University Touring Dance Company Visits Lakewood
Professor Don Guy and the Chapman University Touring Dance Company presented an assembly to introduce Lakewood ARTS students interested in careers in Dance and Entertainment Technology.

Advanced Theater Arts Emily Scheeve She’s co-president of drama club; portrayed one of the group “Dancing Cats” in AFI winning video critique contest; acted in Scene Selections in Novemberas Anne in Phantoms; lead role in Welcome To The Monkey House as Miss Doris Sawyer; co-designed display case for the play production.
Introduction to Theatre Arts ARTS student Amanda York She wrote the winning AFI film critique essay for high school division category; top student in Introduction to Theatre classes; excellent actor in all scenes presented, created and worked on Property Crew for Welcome To The Monkey House

Angelica Nunez 12th grade (who likes to go by Angie) This is her first time taking ceramics. She is an outstanding student academically, in her conduct and attendance. She utilizes her talent and imagination to create her chosen theme of a picnic for her functional rainstick. This instrument makes sound went tipped over. It took 6 weeks to construct and glaze. Angie has made it to the Top Ten Ceramic students 2 times this year.
