LANCER SECTION

 

LBCC COUNSELOR MEETINGS – Seniors, if you’re going to LBCC in the Fall, and you haven’t yet attended an LBCC Counseling session, stop by the College and Career Center today at lunch to schedule your meeting or check your appointment time.  Remember that you can’t register for classes at LBCC until you’ve had your LBCC Counselor meeting. 

 

SENIORS CAN STILL SUBMIT FAFSA OR CA DREAM ACT FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES – Seniors, if you haven’t submitted your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application yet and you’re going to a community college in the Fall, you can still submit your application.  Don’t miss out on free money!  If you don’t complete one of the financial aid applications, you’ll have to pay to go to LBCC or any other California community college instead of going tuition-freeIf you haven’t started or completed your application, stop by the to the College and Career Center at lunch or after school to secure your free money. 

 

STUDENT AMBASSADORS MEETING TODAY -  Student Ambassadors, come to the College and Career Center at lunch to discuss upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

 

PAID INTERNSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE – If you are interested in exploring careers in Biomedical Research, Communications, the Arts, Law, Business, Fire Fighting, Technology, Law Enforcement, or Government stop by the College and Career Center today to pick up a flyer for one of the many paid internships available now.

 

CAREER OPTIONS EXPO – Mark your calendar for the Career Options Expo on May 2nd here at Lakewood from 5 pm to 7 pm.  You can learn about high-paying job options after high school including apprenticeships (where you earn money while you learn), community college certificate and career technical education programs, adult schools, the military, and job training programs.  All students are welcome and seniors may have the opportunity to get hired-on-the-spot.

ATTENTION STUDENTS - California Scholarship Federation and National Honor Society applications are available in the activities office and with your English teacher.  The deadline has been extended to March 29th.  Please include a copy of Fall 2018's report card.  Completed applications should be turned into room 2211.  Thank you.  Mrs. Brandts

 

COME SEE THE TALENTED LANCERETTES PERFORM - In their Showcase, Friday, March 22 at 7 pm. Presale tickets available at the Banker for $5 or pay $7 at the door. Like Creative expression through dance? Join the Drill Team for Try-Outs! Pick up your packet at the ASB office and return it to B94! Try-outs are held April 1st-5th in the Quad. 

 

GIRLS WRESTLING NEWS - Lakewood’s girls' wrestling will be hosting a girl’s only wrestling clinic at Lakewood on Saturday, March 23rd from 8am to 1pm in the small gym.  The clinic is free to all and will feature Gannon University Women’s Head Coach Christen Dierken. If you are looking for a sport, come out and see and hear what college opportunities are available for women in one of the fastest growing sports in the country.

 

LAKEWOOD STUDENTS - If you are unscheduled the last block of the day and wish to leave campus you are required to have an ID.  Therefore, without an ID you will not be allowed to leave.  If you wish to leave you can go to ASB and purchase one.  However, no ID’s will be issued on an IOU basis.  Students without ID’s will be housed on campus.

THE HOSA CLUB - Is proud to announce that we will be hosting the smile drive from February 20th to March 20th. Feel free to donate dental hygiene supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash to any of the boxes located in the front office, room 827, room 421, or bungalow 99. All supplies will be donated to the local shelter. Thank you.

 

CLUB SECTION

 

SCRAPBOOKING CLUB - Bring some photos to room 426 on Thursday from 3:00-4:00 and Mrs. McDaniel will provide all the materials to create a scrapbook page.

 

INTERESTED IN VIDEO GAMES?  Are you good?  Want to compete?  The E-Sports club will be starting national competition in March.  The season is March 18 - May 10, one day a week depending on your game.  Games include: Overwatch, Dragonball Fighters, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, Super Smash Brothers, Hearth Stone, Counter Strike and Fortnite.  If interested, visit room 703 as soon as possible to sign up.  Club meetings are Tuesdays at lunch.

 

GIRLS WHO CODE- Come join the new club. Have you ever thought of creating an app? Come see what coding is all about! Whether you are a beginner or a computer master, you are invited to participate in the movement. All are Welcome!  Meetings:  Wednesdays after school from 2:45-3:45 in room 842 & Weekly meetings at lunch on Friday in room 843. Please see Ms. Bockman in the office #135, Ms. Zell #842, or Mr. Ton in 843 if you have any questions. 

 

SENIOR SECTION

 

PTSA SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS – Are now available in the ASB office. Only membership dues paid by December 31, 2018 will qualify. Deadline to turn in application is Thursday, April 4 by 3pm to the ASB office.

 

APPLY FOR 370 COLLEGES FOR FREE ON COMMON APP – No matter your family’s income, you can apply for 370 colleges/universities for free at www.commonapp.org  If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you can apply for more than 750 colleges/universities on Common App for free.  Create your account and apply today!
