FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION DEADLINE IS TOMORROW! - Both the FAFSA and the California Dream Act Applicaiton are due tomorrow.  Remember that you must submit either a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application to get two years free tuition at a California community college.  If you need help with your application, please come today or tomorrow's virtual College and Career Center at http://bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc any time 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.

SENIOR SHIELD CONTEST  - Look in your canvas for information regarding the senior shield application. If you have any artistic talent then consider filling out an application to participate in the senior shield contest.  The winner will be forever remembered as the shield will be placed in the school cafeteria for generations to come. 

 

SCHOOL CENTS – Bring in your receipts to the ASB office from Lakewood, Los Cerritos, or Stonewood Center Malls or you can download your receipts to School-Cents.com and help us earn up to $10,000. SENIOR SECTION

 

 

GET HELP WITH YOUR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION - Both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA - for Undocumented Students Only) are open now.  You will get most of your financial aid for college or other training after school from one of these financial aid applications.  You can apply now for 2021-2022 FAFSA at http://fafsa.ed.gov/ or the 2021-2022 CADAA at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.  If you have any questions, you can stop by the Virtual College and Career Center at bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc today or tomorrow any time between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.

 

CREATE AN ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE FOR YOUR FAFSA - Seniors, when you're filling out the FAFSA, you can create your electronic signature (FSA ID) for the application by going to http://fsaid.ed.gov/.  Remember that you need one and one of your parents needs one too.  Once you and one of your parents have each created a FSA ID, you can start your financial aid application.

 

THREE CAL STATE CAMPUSES ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS - Seniors, you can still apply to Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State, and Somona State.  You can apply for CSU schools at https://www2.calstate.edu/apply and you can get help on today or tomorrow in the virtual College and Career Center at http://bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc any time between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. 

 

APPLY TO CALIFORNIA PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND OUT-OF-STATE COLLEGES FOR FREE - Seniors, remember that you can apply to California private and out-of-state colleges for FREE on www.commonapp.org, but first you need to complete the Cal-SOAP Survey at http://bit.ly/calsoapthewood and have a parent complete the Parent Consent Form at http://bit.ly/calsoapparents.

 

FEE WAIVERS FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS - If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you should get 4 fee waivers for CSU Schools (you can still apply for Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State, and Sonoma State), and an unlimited number of fee waivers for applying to Common Application schools.  Most of the fee waivers can be found in the college applications.  Since our entire senior class is now in the California Student Access and Opportunity Program (Cal-SOAP), everyone can apply to Common Application schools (many private California and out-of-state colleges/universities) for FREE.  Also, remember to mark "YES" to being in a College Access Program on your CSU Application. 

 

STILL ACCEPTING THE LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - Lakewood's Local Scholarship Application, that allows seniors to apply for more than 50 scholarships with one application, is still being accepted.  Seniors, go to Lakewood's College and Career Center website (bit.ly/lhscollegecareer) to get the scholarship application today.  Don't miss out on FREE money!

LOOKING FOR A JOB? - You can find an Interactive Map on the Lakewood College and Career Center website (bit.ly/lhscollegecareer) where you can click on the map and find available jobs all over Southern California.  If you have any questions, you can also stop by the Virtual College and Career Center at bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc any time between 11:00 am and 11:45 am today to get your questions answered. 

 

FIND OUT ABOUT UPCOMING EVENTS AND FREE MONEY - Remember to check bit.ly/lhscollegecareer​ for upcoming virtual events, workshops, scholarships, and job openings.  You can also stop by the Virtual College and Career Center at bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc any time between 11:00 am and 11:45 am, Monday through Friday to get your questions answered about college, scholarships and grants, jobs, work permits, or anything you're planning after high school. 

 

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN ONLINE - You can apply here:  California State University (CSU) Schools (Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State, Somona State) - www2.calstate.edu/apply, Private California Universities and Many Out-of-State Colleges - www.commonapp.org​, Many Historically Black Colleges and Universities - https://commonblackcollegeapp.com, and California Community Colleges - https://home.cccapply.org/en/apply.  There are a few out-of-state colleges and California private schools that have applications only on their individual school's website (not on the Common Application), so check those colleges' links directly to apply. 

 

LBCC AVAILABLE ON WEDNESDAY TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS - Stop by the Virtual College and Career Center at bit.ly/lhsvirtualccc any time between 11:00 am and 11:45 am on Wednesday to talk with our Long Beach City College Outreach & Recruitment Specialist, LooLoo Amante.  You can ask questions about Dual Enrollment, the LBCC application, LBCC majors, or scholarships available.
