HELLO LAKEWOOD! Please make time Thursday at lunch to attend the Life 101 Club in room 10204. We've been learning many life skills. There is an outside speaker this week. Topic is a secret. Thanks! Hope to see you there. 

 

CALIFORNIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD HERE TODAY – All students are welcome to the College and Career Center at Lunch tomorrow to learn more about the opportunities available in the California Army National Guard and how they can help you pay for college.

 

TODAY IS CASH FOR COLLEGE DAY – Seniors, you and your family are welcome to today’s Cash for College event in the College and Career Center (Room 2112). You can drop in any time between 11:30 am to 7:00 pm to get help with your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.  Remember to bring your social security number (if you have one) and a copy of your parents’ 2018 taxes so that you can finish your financial aid application.  Everyone who attends this event will be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000!

 

NAVY WILL BE HERE TOMORROW – Stop by the College and Career Center tomorrow to learn more about the U.S. Navy where you can find out more about Navy ROTC and Navy Reserves.

 

FRIDAY WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF MISSION ADMISSION WEEK – The College and Career Team will be in the Senior English classes of Ms. Gregg, Ms. Brandts, and Ms. Monarrez on Friday helping you complete your college and financial aid applications.  Seniors in those English classes, remember to bring your parents’ 2018 taxes on Friday.

Yearbooks are currently on sale for $90 from the Banker or online webstore.

 

SCHOOL CENTS – Bring in your receipts to the ASB office from Lakewood, Los Cerritos, or Stonewood Center Malls and help us win money for our school. You can also earn points at the Cerritos Auto Square, the square cares.

 

AFTER SCHOOL PEER TUTORING - Is now open in the Career Center.  Are you struggling in your classes and need some extra help? Do you need computer access?  Do you want to form study groups?  Are you looking for a quiet place to study or finish a project?  Come to the Career Center room 2112 Monday through Thursday after school until 4:15 for Peer Tutoring during regularly scheduled days.  Qualified AP students will be available to tutor in nearly all academic subjects.  EVERY STUDENT IS WELCOME!

 

 

CLUB SECTION

 

RED CROSS – Are you interested in local volunteer services with the Red Cross?  If so, come join the Lakewood Red Cross Club held every Tuesday at lunch in room 2203 to learn about the volunteer connection opportunites.  See you there!

 

NEW COOKING/BAKING CLUB! - Meets every Thursday in room 7305 with Mrs. Kim. You will learn about people and cultures through food, share recipes and learn about careers involving cooking/baking. Show up this Thursday in 7305, lets get cookin!

 

ART CLUB - Meets at Lunch on Tuesdays in room 6205a! Bring your lunch and meet some like-minded people!

 

JOIN SENIOR SENATE – Come support the class of 2020.  We meet on Thursday’s at lunch in room 6203.  Let’s make this year great!

APPLY FOR 370 COLLEGES FOR FREE ON COMMON APP – No matter your family’s income, you can apply for 370 colleges/universities for free at www.commonapp.org  If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you can apply for more than 750 colleges/universities on Common App for free.  Create your account and apply today!

 

NEW CLUB ARCH IN THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER – Is your club one of the 14 currently represented in the College and Career Center’s new Club Arch?  If you haven’t brought your club’s flyer by yet, please bring it to Room 2112 today.

 

 

CAREER CENTER SECTION

 

GET HELP WITH COLLEGE APPLICATIONS – Seniors, the University of California application is open online.  If you’re going to apply to one of the nine UC campuses or to any private or out-of-state colleges, you can stop by the College and Career Center to get help deciding which colleges you’re going to apply to and get help working on the applications.  If you want to apply to a Cal State or community college, those applications will open online on October 1st along with the financial aid applications.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ALL STUDENTS – All students are eligible for scholarships, so you should spend some time earning free money for yourself and for your future.  Go to bit.ly/jlvmoneygoingmerry.com, and raise.me to work on scholarships.
