ELD Coordinator - Sra. Frayre
Muchísimo gusto. Me llamo Elizabeth Frayre y este año he aceptado el puesto de ser la Coordinadora del programa de estudiantes que están aprendiendo o mejorando el inglés que hablan. Estoy muy emocionada de trabajar con ustedes y ojalá juntos logremos apoyar mucho a sus hijos y estudiantes para que tengan éxito en la escuela.
Para que me conozcan mejor, les contaré un poco de mí. Nací en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México, pero me crié en Los Estados Unidos. Mis padres, al igual que muchos otros padres que desean un mejor futuro para sus hijos, nos trajeron a mi hermana mayor y a mí a California desde una edad muy temprana. Creo que yo tenía como tres o cuatro años. Sólo mi hermana mayor y yo nacimos en Juárez, pero en total somos seis hijos. Tengo un hermano y cuatro hermanas.
Al llegar a California, mis padres formaron raíces en el área de Bakersfield, pero más bien en un pueblo pequeño llamado Shafter. Allí, mis padres fueron campesinos y trabajaron siempre bajo el sol, la lluvia o cualquier clima. Recuerdo que siempre nos decían, “Hijos, edúquense para que trabajen con la mente y no con el cuerpo.” Por esa razón es que decidí seguir mis estudios después de graduarme de la “high school”.
Seguí con mis estudios en la Universidad Estatal de Bakersfield y después de graduarme fui a mi prepa y les pregunté que si había un puesto para una maestra de español. Resulta que en aquel entonces todavía no había un programa de español para los hispanohablantes, así que me contrataron para comenzar el programa. En el año 2004, mi esposo, mi hijo y yo nos mudamos a Long Beach y fue cuando comencé a trabajar en Lakewood High.
Este año enseño dos clases de español para principiantes, dos clases de español para estudiantes de tercer año y dos clases de español avanzado. Ya que de niña yo también fui un aprendice de inglés, voy a poner mi mejor esfuerzo para apoyarlos a ustedes y a sus hijos en Lakewood High. Espero que me acompañen en este camino.
Very nice to meet you. My name is Elizabeth Frayre and this year I have accepted the position as ELD Coordinator. I am very excited to work with you and I hope that together we will be able to support your children and students so that they can be successful in school.
In order for you to know me a little better, I will tell you about me. I was born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México, but I was raised in the United States. My parents, like most parents from other countries who desire a better future for their children, brought my older sister and me to California at a very young age. I believe I was about three or four years old. Only my sister and I were born in Mexico, but overall my parents have six children. I have one brother and four sisters.
Upon arriving in California, my parents planted their roots in the Bakersfield area, in a small town called Shafter. While there my parents were farm workers who worked outdoors throughout the year regardless of the weather. I remember my parents would tell us, "Children, educate yourselves so that you work with your brain and not with your bodies." For that reason and others, I decided that I would continue studying after high school.
I studied at California State University Bakersfield and after I graduated I went back to my high school to ask if there was an opening for a Spanish teacher. It turns out that a Spanish for Spanish speakers program was not available then; therefore, I was hired to implement the program. In 2004, my husband, my son and I moved to Long Beach and that was when I began working at Lakewood High.
This year I teach two classes of first year Spanish to non-Spanish speakers, two classes of Spanish to third year students and two AP Spanish language classes. As an English Language Learner I am going to do my best to support you and your students at Lakewood High. I hope you can join me on this journey.
