Ms. Acuna - Merit teacher
 

Meet Mrs. Acuna.  Mrs. Acuna has a Bachelor Degee  from  CSULB in  Spanish & Speech Communications. She also has a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University.  "When my mom told me in high school that I should be a Spanish teacher, I told her she was crazy. After studying abroad in Spain and traveling through Europe, I fell into teaching by accident, but it has been the best thing to happen to me. I am so fortunate that I get to share my love and passion for language, culture and travel with amazing students who inspire me every day."

MEET MR. GJONOVICH   Mr. Gjonovich graduated from  CSULB. He holds a Master's Degree in Education from the  University of La Verne.  Mr. Gjonovich  began teaching at LHS in 1990.  He teaches Precalculus Honors and FST.  In his free time, he stays active by riding  his bike, motorcycle and going to the gym.

Meet Mr. Brandts  Mr. Brandts started teaching at LHS in 1995, after graduating from CSU Fullerton.  He teaches English 1-2 Accelerated and is the Class of 2021 Senate Advisor.   On the weekends, you might find Mr. and Mrs. Brandts (who is also a LHS English teacher) reading in between their daughters' soccer games.

Meet the Merit Teachers

Meet  Mrs. McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel teaches AP Spanish Language and Culture, Spanish 1-2  and Merit 101, a 9th grade pre-AP study skills elective course.  Mrs. McDaniel  is a long time Lancer, graduating from LHS in 1988! She went on to graduate from CSULB with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Chicano and Bilingual Studies. She also has a Master's degree from the University of La Verne in School Counseling. In her free time, she loves to camp and travel to Spanish Speaking countries with her family. Mrs. McDaniel - Lead Merit teacher
 

Meet Mr. de la Loza. Mr. de la Loza attended Cal State Long Beach where he obtained his degree in Chemistry. He took a few years off to travel "Where no man has gone before" before finally deciding on a career in education. He currently serves as advisor to the Merit Scholars' Student Club and Dead Chemist Society. This year, he is teaching AP and Honors Chemistry.

Ms. Magana - Merit teacher
Meet Ms. Magaña, Merit Scholar's Little Stick of Dynamite!

Ms. Magaña graduated from CSU Long Beach with a BA in Comparative Literature. Ms. Magaña began teaching at LHS in 2004. She is teaching  AP Seminar and AP Research, helping students earn their AP Capstone Diploma. She is also the One World Club Sponsor. When not teaching, she loves to travel, attend U2 concerts!  

Meet Mrs. Boggan, the Merit Scholars Lead Teacher.   Mrs. Boggan has been at LHS since 2015.  She teachers AP Calculus, Geometry and Merit 101.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Cal Poly SLO and a Master's degree in Mathematics from CSULB. As a native of the Central Coast, she loves to play outdoors and having fun with her husband and two children.   

Meet Mrs. Boggan - Merit teacher
 

Meet Mr. Clarke  Mr. Clarke is the Merit Scholars' AP US History teacher.  He is also the advisor of the CRU Club and Adventure Club.  He graduated from CSU  Dominguez Hills with a degree in  Political Science and from Adams State University with a MA in US History.  In addition to being quite the historian, he loves sports...watching, coaching and playing.

Meet Mr. Anderson, Merit Scholars Counselor.  Mr. Anderson attended Long Beach schools, graduating from Wilson H.S. in 1980.  He earned a BA in Business Administration with an option in Accountancy in 1985 at CSULB.  After two misguided years as a corporate accountant,  he returned to CSULB, earning his MA in School Counseling in 1990.  Mr. Anderson counseled at Henry Elementary for 6½ years and then transferred to LHS (and has never left!).  When he's not spending time with his wife, two daughters or cats, he can be found backpacking, river rafting, surfing, and bouldering.

canonMeet Mrs. Deutschman.  Mrs. Deutschman has a Bachelors Degree from UCLA in Psychology and German.  She also has a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from CSULB with an emphasis in her favorite subject – HISTORY!  She loves teaching AP World History which bridges the things she enjoys learning about like different cultures and traditions with the things she enjoys doing like surfing and traveling.  Mrs. Deutschman loves inspiring her students to be engaged in the topics they are learning about but is always amazed at how her students’ motivation and dedication inspires her.  Having been a student athlete at UCLA playing water polo, Mrs. Deutschman is an avid Bruins fan, but is also a huge sports fan in general.  She loves spending time with her husband and new little baby boy and can’t wait to take him on travel adventures and teach him all about the history of the places he visits.
