Odyssey Academy Mission
The Odyssey Academy is committed to advancing the academic, scientific and personal literacy of each student. Our time-tested marine related curriculum incorporates 21st Century Skills: problem solving, time management, organization and developing personal skills such as responsibility, teamwork and positive interdependence; all essential for living in a global community. In this way, we prepare our students for success at the university level; in a Marine Transportation, Agriculture and Natural Resources career path.
Management of Aquatic Life and Animals
This Work Based Learning Career Technical Education Course is for qualified Juniors and Seniors who are interested in training to work with animals. See Mr. Goldfisher in room 201 to ask questions. See your counselor as soon as possilbe to enroll in the course.
Odyssey Medallion Criteria
The criteria to receive an Odyssey Academy medallion to be worn at graduation is as follows:
- 4 years of Odyssey science -"C" or better GPA in Core Odyssey Classes - Minimum 2.0 overall GPA -No "U" in conduct |
Odyssey Academy Community Opportunities
Alamitos Beach Cleanup & Long Beach Environmental Alliance would like to invite everyone to join us 4th Sunday of each month for our monthly beach & cigarette butt cleanup. It’s a great way to make new friends while helping to keep our local beaches clean and environmental healthy. Bring the family, friends, teachers, students, co-workers and help keep our beaches and oceans clean, safe and environment-healthy for everyone.
There’s free parking doing beach cleanups. Details: Students can receive volunteer credit and class credit. Gloves & bags are provided. E-mail: lbenvironmental.alliance@gmail.com to volunteer. Cleanup Time: 10 a.m.-11 a.m.

Habitat Restoration Project
Odyssey Academy joined with the Los Cerritos Wetland Stewards in a habitat restoration service event. We met at the corner of PCH and 1st in Seal Beach. Our goal was to continue the restoration of the local wetlands to its native habitat status. Participants will learned about the importance of conservation efforts and why this habitat is essential to our environment.
Participants were eligible to win a free ticket the the Aquarium of the Pacific and other prizes.
A great time was had by all who attended.

Odyssey is a Small Learning Community (SLC) program within Lakewood High School, which has a Parent Booster Club run by parents and teachers. The Odyssey Booster Club is a great way to support the program and your student(s). It also provides an opportunity to meet other parents and obtain information about what is happening within the program and at Lakewood High School.
Parent support and fundraising have been a key factor in the success of the program. Our annual student scholarships, class grade-level field trips, classroom equipment and supplies and the annual Banquet are a few of the things our Parent Booster Club continues to sponsor.
Simply come to our meetings to become a member, our meeting dates are listed below. To help us keep in touch with you and provide updates, please fill out and return the bottom portion of this flyer to this table, or to your student’s English or History teacher.
The Booster Club meets the 1st Monday of the month in the LHS Library at 7pm, unless otherwise noted.

Monthly Wetland Clean-ups: Preregistration is Required: Call (562) 570-1745 or RSVP with your Odyssey science teacher.
All Lakewood High School students are still encouraged to perform Service Learning in their community. In the Odyssey Academy, we provide opportunities to earn hours during our monthly wetland clean-up events sponsored by the El Dorado Nature Center and the City of Long Beach.
